Direct Care’s aim is to provide and promote the highest-quality service that meets our Client needs as effectively as possible. We believe this aim is best met by having well-trained, highly-motivated and professionally-led staff who are aware of their legal, ethical, health and safety requirements and duties.
Training starts from the first interview with potential staff and continues for the duration of their time with us.
Our extensive training featuring refresher courses, supervision sessions, Care Team meetings, direct observations, professional discussions and shadowing visits to Clients, training is designed to keep Care Workers aware of best practices and all legislation changes.
Within 10 weeks of employment with Direct Care Bristol, all employees are required to complete the Home Care Worker Induction Programme, which includes five mandatory courses:
- Common Induction Standards
- Manual Handling
- Care Worker Handbook , Care Policies and Procedures
- Health and Safety at Work
- Food and Hygiene
After completing the Induction Programme, Bristol Care Direct employees are given the opportunity to start and complete a National Vocational Qualification Level 2 in Health and Social Care.
Every Client has unique, individual requirements and our Care Workers are encouraged to take training courses specific to their Client’s health conditions, for example dementia, stroke and multiple sclerosis.
Direct Care employs a full-time, In-House Trainer/NVQ2 assessor certified in all Care-related courses set by the Skills for Care Council. Furthermore, we regularly invite guest speakers to address staff on issues relating to our Client’s health conditions.
